Sabre Jr. is looking to stay on top of his game for decades to come.

Zack Sabre Jr. is two weeks into his first IWGP World Heavyweight Championship reign. His first title defense was in his home country of England at NJPW Royal Quest IV and next up on the docket for him is a defense against Shingo Takagi at Power Struggle.

A sit-down chat with Sabre Jr. was posted to New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s official YouTube channel. He stated that he feels he has 20 more top-level years in his career.

No matter how long this first title reign lasts, obviously I’m aiming to reach the record number of defenses in a title reign for this new championship, because that’s the goal. But whatever happens after, we’re still in the early days of my career. I’m 20 years in, I’ve got 20 more top-level years. So yeah, my goal now is to really start the hard work. Being champion of one of the largest wrestling companies in the world is not gonna be easy. I’m fully aware of that but, I’ve bet on myself this entire time and now the gamble starts.

Sabre Jr. is in his 20th year in wrestling and he’s 37 years old. He mentioned in the interview that one of his goals is to main event Wrestle Kingdom 19 in January.
