Last Friday on MTT provided a report on the road accidents that occurred during 2023 in the country. The report showed that throughout last year 78,238 events of this type occurred, which represents the second lowest figure -after 2020- in the last ten years.

Although Minister Muñoz highlighted this decrease, he assured that there is still “a lot to do.” “Road accidents in our country are a serious problem,” he stated on that occasion.

That same Friday, the MTT launched the campaign Vital May. This initiative is in line with international campaigns such as the so-called Maio Amarelo (Yellow May) in Spanish), movement born in Brazil in 2013, and since then every year this month it launches products or advertisements to raise awareness about safe driving. Countries such as Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico and Spain have joined this movement.

“Road safety is an issue of utmost importance worldwide, and Chile is no exception. Each year, the country experiences numerous traffic accidents that often result in serious injuries and, sadly, in too many cases, loss of life. In order to address this problem, in Chile has adopted the international Yellow May campaign, that “Aims to raise awareness among the population about the importance of road safety,” reads in the description of our country in the collective page.

For that reason, This Friday, state ministers were asked to wear the distinctive yellow ribbon on their clothing. of the road awareness movement.

In the case of Chile, about 2 thousand people die every year from traffic accidents. According to statistics, the focus is especially concentrated on men, who are almost 80% of those who die and who drive in accidents.

That is why the MTT calls for awareness of these events and to avoid reckless driving, respecting speed limits, driving attentively to traffic conditions and not driving under the influence of alcohol or illicit substances.
