The matchup is set for Game 1 of the World Series: Right-hander Jack Flaherty will start for the Los Angeles Dodgers opposite New York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole.
“I think he’ll spit out a good one on Friday,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday in announcing the move.
Additionally, Roberts announced that right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start Game 2.
Roberts said “over the next couple days, we’ll talk about how Game 3 and 4 will look.” One of the games at Yankee Stadium will be a bullpen game, Roberts said.
Left-handed reliever Alex Vesia is scheduled to throw a live bullpen this week. He and right-handed reliever Brusdar Graterol are “trending in the right direction” after missing the National League Championship Series with injuries, Roberts said.
“Both are going to be a game-time decision if they’re going to be viable or not,” Roberts said.
The Dodgers clinched a return to the World Series for the first time in four years by eliminating the New York Mets in Game 6 of the NLCS on Friday.
