What caused the leak in the Cutzamala Macrocircuit?

The events occurred after the night of October 25, a water leak at the height of the Adolfo López Mateos neighborhood in Los Olivos, in the municipality of Atizapán, due to the rupture of an air release valve in one of the system tubes.

In the images shared by residents and passers-by, it could be seen that the leak caused a column of water several meters high, near the Champapa-Lechería highway.

In recent days, the CAEM had issued a notice announcing that maintenance work would be carried out for the repair a drinking water leak detected in the Macro Distribution Circuit of the Cutzamala Systemwhich would require the total suspension of the flow received by the Bellavista tank and the Madín II water treatment plant.

The above, in turn, would affect the water supply for 11 municipalities of the State of Mexico: Acolman, Atizapán de Zaragoza, Coacalco, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Ecatepec, Naucalpan, Nezahualcóyotl, Nicolás Romero, Tecámac, Tlalnepantla and Tultitlán.
