After two editions canceled in 2021 and 2022 due to the health crisis, the traditional vows ceremony of the University of Montpellier was back. this Tuesday, January 17 with several major guidelines for 2023. All this with a clear objective: to allow the establishment to maintain a reputation already acquired. These are the main points to follow for this new year.
The primary objective in terms of training is to continue the implementation of the status of public establishment of an experimental nature as well as international advisory board in parallel. This makes it possible to analyze the process of transformation of the University of Montpellier and to formulate opinions in the international field. The establishment also wishes to launch new calls for projects on the one hand to provide support for the success of newcomers and on the other hand to make students aware of the issue of ecological transition. With regard to environmental training, a professional license focused on the forest-wood sector will open at the IUT of Béziers. As well as another devoted to robotics and artificial intelligence. The Masters are not left behind since nine new courses will be created and will be specifically accessed through research.
Still in terms of training, a result is expected within a few days: the result of another call for projects to increase the resources allocated to continuing training and to obtain aid to establish European partnerships.
In order to improve the daily lives of students, training rooms will be set up in the Sciences and Richter university libraries. This time within the framework of the State-region plan contract, digital exam rooms will be deployed on campuses. Finally, nearly €290,000 will be exclusively allocated to the development of blended education. Other sums are reserved to allow other facilities to see the light of day:
- 4 million euros for the renovation and restructuring of building A of UFR STAPS
- 23 million euros for the creation of a science village on the Triolet campus
Again thanks to the State-region plan contract, new operations will start, such as the renovation of the Botanical Garden Management as well as several research buildings and IUTs. The historic medical building will also continue to undergo several works aimed at securing it.
Two major international schemes planned by the University of Montpellier will mark 2023. First of all, several initiatives aimed at replacing a whole series of international exchanges will see the light of day with three projects focusing, for example, on vector-borne diseases, food systems and social and environmental issues. Subsequently, the institution wishes to expand the CHARM-EU university alliance of which it is a member. The goal: lead to CHARM-EIGHT to create joint diplomas across eight universities and increase student mobility.
“To carry out all these projects, it will take the total mobilization of the communities, whether staff, teachers, teacher-researchers and students. We must work together to move this establishment forward.”
In terms of research, five poles which are exclusively dedicated to it will be deployed to partly initiate a reflection over the period following the end of the Laboratories of Excellence (Labex). In fact, long programs for research are being studied for 2024. 2023 is still an important year for this field through extensive work on the Datacenter which will make it possible to review questions around computing resources, storage and data.
Regardless of the fields highlighted for 2023, the President of the University of Montpellier Philippe Auge would like to remind the necessary mobilization of each : “To carry out all these projects, it will take the total mobilization of the communities, whether staff, teachers, teacher-researchers and students. We must work together to move this institution forward.”
