“Wicked” has a nice surprise in store for fans of the musical comedy behind the film (SPOILER) (Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who play the witches Elphaba and Galinda in the Disney musical “Wicked”)
CINEMA – The Witches of the Land of Oz arrived on the big screen Friday, November 22 across the Atlantic, to the great joy of fans of Wicked. In France, it will be in theaters on December 4. This film is the cinematic adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, performed in the 2000s. For these new adventures, Elphaba, the green-skinned witch is played by Cinthya Erivo and Glindathe good witch, by Ariana Grande.
During the first theatrical releases of director Jon M. Chu’s feature film, early fans got a nice surprise that must have taken them back twenty years.

Indeed, they were not announced in the casting of the film and yet Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, the original witches of the Broadway musical, make a surprise appearance. But not in the roles of Elphaba and Glinda.
This iconic duo can be seen singing a new verse in One Short Daythe song telling the story of the wonderful Wizard of Oz. The two actresses even shared a “ sweet moment » with their successors Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, according to Variety.
An experience “ surrealist »
Ariana Grande told the media that this experience was “surreal, truly extraordinary”. “I mean, seeing the women who helped write and create and bring these characters to life accepting us and accepting our versions of them was just incredibly surreal.”she explained, adding that the four of them meeting was “ very moving “.
On his side, Kristin Chenoweth said she was afraid to take part in the project and steal the spotlight from the lead actresses who were reprising their roles. “I was so honored that they wanted to include us,” she declared to Variety. But “I was like, ‘Should we? Is it weird because it’s Ariana and Cynthia’s now?’” To which the film’s producer Marc Platt responded: ” How so ? You have to do it. It couldn’t have been done without you! »
Among other surprise appearances, Variety also spotted composer Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, author of the book for the musical.
