Violence in Hessian amateur football: A 19-year-old player was struck down with a punch during a district league game. He suffered a concussion. The police are investigating the alleged thug.
Police and ambulance on a soccer field in Maintal-Dörnigheim (Main-Kinzig): During a game between Dörnigheimer SV and Spvgg Hüttengesäß in the district league B, the game escalated in the 87th minute on Tuesday evening.
As the sports association reports, when the score was 5:5, a “pack formed” after a foul. A 19-year-old player from the club wanted to mediate – and received a fist to the head. He is still in the hospital with a concussion, said Spvgg coach Benjamin Weber.
The police confirmed that there was a “commotion on the pitch”. The 27-year-old suspected thug is being investigated for bodily harm.
Unconscious and confused after punch
The opposing player “apparently punched the temple” of the 19-year-old, says Hüttengesäß trainer Weber. The player was unconscious for a short time and then said “nonsense”. There is great outrage: “The sports association strongly condemns such behavior and clearly distances itself from violence of any kind,” the club said in a statement.
The game was interrupted for more than half an hour, then continued – and ended with a 6:5 victory for the sports association. The club criticizes the fact that the referee allowed the game to continue after the punch was “completely incomprehensible in this situation”.
The association told the hr that they had turned to the public to draw attention to this type of violence – and to prevent such escalations in the future.
Dead after outbreak of violence at game in Frankfurt
Violence occurs again and again during amateur games on Hessian football fields. Last May, a 15-year-old player from Berlin died after being injured during a game in Frankfurt-Eckenheim suffered a severe brain injury as a result of beatings. The case caused great horror nationwide. The 17-year-old perpetrator became one Suspended sentence of two years.
Referees are also repeatedly attacked, threatened and insulted. Some people give up volunteering because of the sometimes aggressive atmosphere, Referees report in an HR report.
