Vacek believes in Hungary. We will climb from the plains to difficult hills, he says

Cyclist Mathias Vacek is looking forward to this race. The rider of the Lidl-Trek worldtour team feels that he could make a breakthrough in the Round of Hungary stage (May 8-12). However, it will not be easy at all. Slovak legend Peter Sagan or stars such as Mark Cavendish and Marc Hirschi will also appear on the Hungarian roads. Vack’s Italian Dario Cataldo is also among the favorites.

Even though Hungary is known for its flat profile, there will be tough hills to conquer to win. Of the total almost 8,000 meters of altitude, the peloton climbs the most (2,716 m) in Friday’s royal 3rd stage to Kékestető. Reaching the hill is also planned for Sunday’s final race, where the cyclists will have to overcome a two-kilometer climb with an average of 11 percent three times in the destination Pécs.

“It’s a smaller race, but all the more chance to succeed. The form is promising. I’m looking forward to it,” said the 21-year-old native of Beroun and current Czech road race champion to Deník.

What makes you optimistic?
It’s not a higher category race, so there won’t be as much competition. With the support of the team, I will be able to fight for myself. A nice result could be achieved.

A touching goodbye. Beaten heartthrob Brož ends up in the Octagon and is looking forward to getting back on the ice

Boasting rising form, do you have any pointers?
After the period of classic one-offs, I am training well for the third week. A few days ago I drove the race Eschborn-Frankfurt and I was satisfied. I believe in Hungary.

Not only the classic Hungarian plains await you, but also shorter and longer climbs. How do you like the profile?
We will enjoy plenty of plains in two stages. Then we head north where it suddenly starts to pick up and there are some pretty tough hills. I really didn’t expect us to climb so much.

Successful part of the season

How satisfied are you with the course of the season so far?
I am quite. Of course, it could have been a little more, but I’m not complaining because I got enough chances to ride on myself in the classics. In other races, where I helped the Dane Mads Pedersen, for example, I fulfilled everything. I’ve had a successful first part of the season.

Would you include the Paris-Roubaix race, which is partly run on cobblestones, among the most successful moments?
I enjoyed the legendary Hell of the North and I think we achieved a decent team result at Paris-Roubaix with Mads Pedersen. I also liked the special atmosphere there.

Martin and Petr Fuks will face the first tough test of the Olympic season this weekend

They don’t want to go to the Olympic village. We have a rented bar in Paris, says Fuksa

What awaits you in the second part of the season? She is very tired, but everything is probably overshadowed by the planned participation in the Vuelta
Shorter stages await me in the first part, including the Czech Tour. It remains to be seen if I will go to the Olympics, but I will go to Andorra in July and start preparing for the Vuelta to be in top shape. I put the main emphasis on that. It will be my first Grand Tour race.

How do you perceive the opportunity to stand at the start of the famous three-week race?
It’s a bit of a step into the unknown, but of course I’m really looking forward to the Vuelta. There is always a first time. I need to experience it and I believe I won’t get lost there.
