​Tutu Sousa, Omar Camilo and Gildoca Barros at the 15th edition of the Dakar Biennale

Visual artists Jacques Chopin, Tutu Sousa, Omar Camilo and Gildoca Barros will participate in the 15th edition of the Dakar Biennale, which takes place from November 7th to December 7th, in Senegal.

These artists will participate in the exhibition “Hors les Murs”, at the Kemboury gallery on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Pierre Goudiaby Àpa office.

The Dakar Biennale was conceived in 1989, as a biennial alternating between literature and art. The first edition took place in 1990 focused on literature and in 1992 on visual arts.

In 1993, the biennial structure was transformed into Dak`Art, in 1996 it became an exhibition specifically dedicated to contemporary African art.

Tutu Sousa was born in São Vicente and has lived in the city of Praia since he was two years old. Tutu Sousa, with over thirty years of career, has held several solo and group exhibitions in the country and abroad.

Jacques Chopin is a self-taught, French-Cape Verdean visual artist. Jacques Chopin discovered his passion for painting in Cape Verde, where he has lived for several years.

Omar Camilo is from Cuba, Havana and has lived in Cape Verde for several years. In addition to being an artist, Omar Camilo is a filmmaker and photographer.

Born in São Vicente, Gildoca Barros began her artistic journey very early, in secondary school, when she was still attending the Civil Construction technical course, at the Technical School on the island of São Vicente. However, it was when he embarked on the Design area, at M_EIA, that he discovered his interest in Graphic Design and Urban Art, with Graffiti.
