Türkiye responds to attack in Ankara by attacking “32 targets in northern Syria and Iraq”

The Government of Türkiye He assured this Wednesday that “32 targets were successfully destroyed” following air operations carried out “against terrorist targets in northern Iraq and Syria”, in response to the attack on a military aeronautical factory in Ankarawhich left five dead and 22 injured, in addition to the two assailants, which the Ottoman Government attributes to the Kurdish PKK guerrilla.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense has assured in a statement that, “in accordance with our right to defense”, the Turkish Armed Forces carried out the attack where “many terrorists were neutralized”without specifying numbers of deaths or injuries.

He added that the military took “all precautions to avoid harm to innocent civilians, friendly elements, historical and cultural assets and the environment.”

The attackers arrived in a taxi

The attack began on Wednesday afternoon (3:25 p.m. in Spain), when at least two people arrived in a taxi at the door of the Tusas military aeronautical factory, on the northern outskirts of Ankara, a huge facility where some 15,000 people.

They opened their way inside with explosives and shots, killing a total of five peoplefour of them Tusas staff, in addition to the taxi driver who was also found dead.

A large number of security force agents went to the scene and a shooting occurred in which both attackers were killed, while seven police officers were injured, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz confirmed to the press.

The attack occurs at a critical political moment, since only this Tuesday, the leader of the ultranationalist MHP party, Devlet Bahçeli, a coalition partner of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had proposed launching a peace initiative with the Kurdish guerrilla.

Bahçeli proposed inviting PKK founder Abdullah Öcalan to the Turkish Parliamentwho since 1999 has been serving a life sentence in solitary confinement, so that from there he proclaimed the dissolution of the guerrilla within the framework of a peace process.

Tusas, the factory attacked, develops some of the most prestigious military aircraft in the Turkish weapons program, such as the Kaan fighter-bomber, still in the pipeline, the Hürjet training aircraft or the Hürkus light aircraft.
