The Brazilian driver, Tony Kanaan, announced that he will compete in his last edition of the 500 Miles of Indinápolis, in the month of May this year. This season, the Bahian will represent McLaren in one of the most traditional races in world motorsport.
At the age of 48, Tony has reconciled IndyCar with Stock Car in Brazil. In the single-seater category, the driver has operated on oval circuits in recent seasons.
Tony Kanaan’s contact with Formula Indy began in the late 1990s, when the driver made his debut in the defunct Champ Car, for the Tasmann team in 1998. The following year, the Brazilian won his first victory in the US 500.
With the separation between CART and Indy Racing League, Tony migrated to the new category in 2002. In Indy, the Bahian became champion in 2004, for Andretti, and won his only triumph in the 500 Miles of Indianapolis in 2013, driving a KV Racing car.
“It’s been a wonderful journey, but it’s not over yet. I will still have the pleasure of riding these bricks. I expect you for the last one, in May”, declared Kanaan on his social networks.
The Indy 500 takes place annually at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The test is scheduled for the 28th of May.
