75% of Spaniardssigns having changed their domestic habits to save energy in the last five years, two percentage points below the average of the European Union (EU)which stands at 77%, according to data from the Eurobarometer of attitudes towards energy policies.
In addition to three-quarters of respondents saying they have taken steps to reduce their home energy consumption, another 56% of Spaniards (55% of Europeans) have adapted their means of transport to reduce their energy consumption and four in ten (40%) said they have altered their energy consumption patterns at work.
Regarding specific measures, the majority (24%) decided to insulate the roof, walls, windows or floor of their home, while 17% chose to change the boiler and another 15%, for installing solar panels.
In contrast, those respondents who admitted not taking measures to reduce their domestic energy consumption cited mainly economic reasons (39%), while 26% said they had no time to dedicate to this subject and another 20% explained that the decision depended on the owner of the home or the co-owners of the building.
Asked about their expectations about the EU’s role in coordinating and responding to energy challenges, 48% of Spaniards surveyed consider that The EU should have more coordinated and integrated actions at the European level and prioritize measures such as helping consumers access more affordable energy prices (32%), investing in innovative energy technologies (31%) or reducing energy consumption in Europe (27%).
Furthermore, 59% believe that the EU should encourage Member States to take measures to support households in energy poverty, 53% ask for measures to reduce energy consumptionToday another 44% demand that the production and consumption of renewable energy be made easier for citizens.
