‘They spent three hours calling the helicopter’

Arturo Requejo has almost lost his partner, the yoga teacher Tamara Vera, and his son Sua, who is about to turn two, after the passage of the DANA through his town, Letur. For some time now, Arturo has run a restaurant in this town in the Sierra del Segura and it was there where his girlfriend and her baby experienced moments of real terror. “They were in water up to their ankles. They spent three hours calling the helicopter“said the former contestant of Big Brother on their social networks. Fortunately, everything was a scare, since the water gave way and they were able to get to safety. “I feel very lucky to be safe. And very sad and helpless that I couldn’t have done anything for the missing people,” said Tamara.

Although his story has had a happy ending, Requejo can’t stop thinking about what could have happened. “I could have been left without a wife and child due to the lack of a rescue helicopter.because they were trapped,” he lamented. Furthermore, “I have lost neighbors, I have lost friends, I have lost clients, I have lost my business and I don’t know for how long.”

LETUR, ALBACETE, CASTILE-LA MANC, SPAIN - OCTOBER 29: Several emergency services help in the rescue work, on October 29, 2024 in Letur, Albacete, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The old town of Letur, in the Sierra de Segura, has born the brunt, with the stream overflowing and its streets turning into a torrent, where the water has swept away everything in its path. Around 30 people have been trapped in their homes in the center of Letur, in the vicinity of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, by the flood. Five more people remain in a restaurant and another one has asked for help from the place La Cascada, near the town. (Photo By Victor Fernandez/Europa Press via Getty Images)© Getty Images

In statements to The Worldthe former contestant maintains that “all these things can be foreseen.” “The people who live in the middle of the riverbed should have been evacuated. If a rescue helicopter had arrived in time, the couple who are still missing could have been saved. The rescue teams arrived late.”
