A DANA (isolated depression at high levels) will be located over the Peninsula during the next few hours and it is expected that affects the country for “a good part” of next week. As a consequence, widespread rainfall is expected on the peninsula and Balearicswith “greater probability and intensity” on the Mediterranean slope, where it is not ruled out that there may be torrential rains.
According to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet)during this weekend the DANA will remain “practically stationary” over the interior of the peninsula and Showers are expected in “large” areas of the peninsula and the Balearic Islandswhich, “in general”, will be of “moderate” intensity but could be “locally strong” and with a storm “more likely” in the Balearic Islands, the mountains of western Andalusia, the Cantabrian Sea, the Alto Ebro and the Iberian system.
Starting Monday, the “most adverse part” of the episode will begin and it is “likely” that DANA moves southwest until it is located in the vicinity of the Gulf of Cádiz, where it could remain with “slight movements” for “a good part of the week”, according to the Aemet, to then emphasize that, at the same time, in the Mediterranean it will be established an easterly wind that will “intensify” on Tuesday, favoring the arrival of “a large amount of humidity” to the east of the peninsula.
“Very strong showers are expected without being able to rule out, today, that they may reach torrential intensity locally, in addition to being persistent and accompanied by gusts of wind very strong,” he added, while indicating that there is still “great uncertainty” about the “exact” location of the largest accumulations.
The worst day, Tuesday
On Monday, the “most likely” thing is that the maximums will be reached in the Mediterranean in Catalonia and Castellón, as well as in the Strait and, from the afternoon, also in the southeast of the peninsula, while on Tuesday, the day in which the greatest accumulated of the entire episode, the “highest probability” of these intense precipitations would extend to the center of the peninsula and east of the southern plateau and, even with higher accumulations, to Alborán and the peninsular Mediterranean, less likely in Barcelona and Girona.
For its part, on Wednesday the “most likely” areas where rainfall may be recorded locally “very strong and persistent” They would be the west of Alborán, Estrecho and lower Guadalquivir, as well as the northeast quadrant. The Cantabrian and Atlantic slopes, with the exception of the southwest quadrant of the peninsula, and the Balearic Islands, would have “much less impact” these days.
During Thursday, DANA will continue to affect the territory, but, according to Aemet, “Multiple scenarios arise about its location and, consequently, uncertainty about the affected areas increases. “It is possible that heavy showers and storms will continue to occur in large areas of our territory, more likely in the southwest quadrant and the Balearic Sea,” he added, while pointing out that the episode will continue “at least” until Thursday, although some scenarios “extend” it until Saturday, November 2.
The Aemet will update this information this Sunday and recommends a “detailed and updated monitoring of this situation” through its predictions and warnings of adverse weather phenomena on its website.
Rains since this Sunday
Starting Sunday, DANA will already leave rain in several territories. The temperatures, for their part, could increase on the Cantabrian and Atlantic slopes, descending in the eastern third and in the Mediterranean area, with few changes in the rest. GALICIA: predominance of slightly cloudy skies on the western coast and cloudy intervals in the rest, except in A Mariña de Lugo, where it will be cloudy or overcast. Scattered mists and fog banks at the beginning and end of the day. Weak to moderate precipitation in the northeast and extreme northwest, occurring in a more dispersed manner in the rest of the northern half, without ruling it out in the south for the first half of the day. Rising temperatureswhich will be light in the eastern half. In the interior, light variable winds at first tending towards light to moderate northeast. North and northeast wind on the Atlantic coast, with strong intervals at the beginning, and east wind in the Cantabrian Sea.
ASTURIAS: cloudy and overcast skies, except slightly cloudy at the beginning and at the end on the coast and central area. Mists and probable scattered fogs in the Cordillera. Weak and moderate precipitation, locally strong in the eastern half during the central hours, which may be accompanied by occasional storms and be persistent. Minimum temperatures with slight changes and maximum temperatures in a slight to moderate decrease. Light variable wind at first, tending on the coast to a moderate north wind.
CANTABRIA: cloudy and overcast skies tending to slightly cloudy in the central and coastal area at night. Scattered mists and probable fogs in elevated areas of the interior at the beginning and end of the day. Widespread, locally strong and persistent precipitation which may be accompanied by the occasional storm, and which will cease throughout the afternoon. Temperatures with slight changes. Light wind from the north, which will be moderate on the coast where it will tend to the west in the afternoon.
THE BASQUE COUNTRY: overcast, tending to cloudy intervals in the afternoon. Scattered mists and probable fogs in high inland areas at the beginning and end of the day. Widespread rainfall during the first half of the day, locally heavy and persistent that may be accompanied by the occasional storm. Minimum temperatures with slight changes and maximum temperatures rising. North wind at first tending to be variable, generally weak.
CASTILLA AND LEÓN: cloudy or covered with precipitation, they can be locally strong and persistent in the first half of the day in the northeast. Snow level: in the east and south 1,200 meters rising to 1,600in the rest 1,400 meters rising to 1,800. Probability of fog and fog banks. Minimum temperatures in slight decline or without changes in the south and west and in slight rise or without changes in the rest and maximum temperatures in slight rise in the east and northeast and no changes in the rest. RIOJA: cloudy or covered with precipitation, preferably in the early morning and at night, in the early morning they can be locally strong and persistent. Snow level 1,200 to 1,400 meters rising to 1,800. Probability of fog and fog banks. Minimum temperatures without changes and maximum temperatures on the rise. Weak frosts in Iberia. Winds from the northwest to the northeast.
ARAGON: cloudy or overcast skies with occasional showers likely. Snow level at 1,800-2,000 meters in the Pyrenees and at 1,500-1,600 meters in the Iberian system. Minimum temperatures unchanged or slightly decreasing; maximums in decline in the southeast quadrant and without changes or in a slight rise in the rest. Variable light wind, with a predominance of the east component from midday.
CATALONIA: cloudy or overcast sky with probable occasional showers, mainly during the second half of the day, which can be locally strong and stormy, more probable and intense in the southern half. Snow level at 1,800-2,000 meters in the westernmost Pyrenees. Minimum temperatures in slight decrease; decreasing maximums in the southern third and without changes or with a slight increase in the rest. Moderate wind from north and east components on the coast and light variable in the interior, tending to east component at the end of the day.
ESTREMADURA: cloudy intervals, without ruling out scattered rainfall, more likely in the province of Badajoz. Probability of morning mists and fog banks. Minimum temperatures without changes or in descent and maximums in slight ascent. Winds from the northwest to the northeast weak, more intense in the north.
MADRID: cloudy or overcast. Probable mists and fog banks in high areas of the Sierra. Weak precipitation, more likely and intense starting at midday, and which in the Sierra could be snow on the summits. Snow level around 1,600 meters rising to 2,000 meters at the end of the day. Temperatures with few changes, except a slight decrease in the minimums in the south, Vegas and west. Light wind from the west that will trend north at the end of the day.
CASTILLA-LA MANCHA: skies in general very cloudy, especially during the day, except for cloudy intervals in the southern third starting in the afternoon. Probable mists and fog banks in high mountain areas. Probable weak rainfall and occasional showers, of greater intensity and persistence in the eastern half, more likely in the eastern half from midday. Snow level around 1,600 meters rising to 1,800 meters at the end of the day. Minimum temperatures in slight decrease; maximums without changes or slight changes, predominating the ascents in the western end. Light wind with an easterly component that will move northeast throughout the day.
VALENCIAN COMMUNITY: cloudy intervals at first, tending towards cloudy skies. Probable occasional showers during the second half of the day that may be locally strong and stormy on the coast. Declining temperatures, slight in the case of minimums. On the coast, wind from the north with occasional increases in intensity; in the interior, light wind from the west and northwest, turning to the east from midday.
MURCIA: slightly cloudy skies tending to very cloudy, with a probability of Occasional showers during the afternoon. Falling temperatures. Light to moderate winds from the west.
BALEARICS: cloudy or covered sky with rain and showers that could be locally strong, preferably in Mallorca and Pitiusas, and be accompanied by a storm. Nighttime temperatures decreasing and daytime temperatures without changes or in slight decline. Light to moderate wind of variable direction, predominating the south component.
ANDALUSIA: intervals of cloudy skies, without ruling out occasional showers, more likely and intense in the mountains and during the afternoon. Snow level around 1,600-1,800 meters. Falling temperatures in the far east; in the rest, without changes or increasing. Light winds from the north component, turning to the east component.
CANARY ISLANDS: In the north of the islands with greater relief, predominance of cloudy skies with weak to moderate rains, which may be persistent, especially in the midlands. In the rest of the areas, cloudy intervals with the probability of occasional light rains. Temperatures with few changes. Moderate wind from the northeast, strong on summits and southeast and northwest extremes of the mountainous islands, where locally very strong gusts are not ruled out.
