There are nearly 450,000 Palestinians who have fled Rafah due to Israel’s offensive

Around 450,000 Palestinians have fled the city of Rafah, located on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.due to the intensification of the Israeli military offensive against the city, including the seizure of the Palestinian side of the border crossing and the increase in operations on the eastern side, as indicated this Tuesday by the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in Middle East (UNRWA).

“UNRWA estimates that nearly 450,000 people have been forcibly displaced from Rafah since May 6”he noted through a message published on his account on the social network X. “Empty streets in Rafah while families continue to flee in search of safety,” he added.

So, has stressed that the Gazan population “faces constant exhaustion, hunger and fear” and has reiterated that “no place is safe”, amid the increase in attacks by the Israeli Army in other parts of the enclave and after more than seven months of offensive. “An immediate ceasefire is the only hope,” he maintained.

Israel has intensified its attacks on Rafah in recent days, in what Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant describes as a “precise operation” against “battalions” of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), as he conveyed to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday.

In fact, During the last hours, new Israeli attacks have been recorded against points in Rafahincluding the Al Geneina neighborhood, which would imply a reinforcement of operations and an attempt to make new advances in the eastern part of the city, where the armed wing of Hamas has confirmed fighting.

In this sense, the Ezzeldin al Qassam Brigades have called for an attack against an armored personnel carrier in the Al Salam neighborhood, in eastern Gaza, as well as new attacks with mortar shells against troops deployed on the Palestinian side of the border crossing, according to the newspaper ‘Filastin’, linked to Hamas.

The Israeli Army has increased its bombings against Rafah in recent weeks and on May 7 it took control of the Palestinian side of the border crossing. suspending humanitarian operations, which has increased international concern about the deepening humanitarian crisis in the enclave.

The operation against the border crossing was launched after Israel rejected a ceasefire proposal previously accepted by Hamas and amid warnings from the United States about a partial suspension of the delivery of weapons if it undertakes a large-scale offensive against the city.
