The Valencian Community, on alert for a DANA that can leave exceptional rains of up to 300 l/m2

The Valencian Community prepares this Friday for an intense episode of rain and strong storms due to the passage of a trough associated with a DANAwhich will move from north to south of the Peninsula to the Mediterranean. Given this situation, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated the yellow warning due to very intense rains and storms, which could leave precipitation accumulations of up to 300 l/m2, according to the portal. The storms will move from the interior to the coast from this afternoon and during the next morning, which is the period in which the warnings are active. The situation will be especially intense inside Valencia and Castellon from 3:00 p.m.and on the Castellón coast from 9:00 p.m., with the possibility of rainfall exceeding 25 liters per square meter in one hour.

In addition to the rains, Aemet and the European Severe Storm Prediction Service (ESSL) warn of a 25% probability of hail fall of more than two centimeters in the interior of the Valencian Community during the afternoon, reducing during the early hours of Saturday. Likewise, the risk of flash floods and river flash floods is highespecially in urban areas and boulevards with difficult drainage.

Main affected areas

According to Meteored, there are around 30% chance of exceeding 300 l/m2 in some areas of the north of the Valencian Community, in the province of Castellón. This probability shoots up to more than 60% for those accumulated over 150 l/m2 throughout the entire day.

In this sense, both the interior – north and south – and the coast – north and south – of Castellón and Valencia are under the yellow alert from the Aemet until 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Likewise, the northern coast of Alicante has also been included in the warning due to conditions of intense rain and storms with the possibility of hail.

Temperatures will not undergo significant changes. In this way, Alicante will record a minimum of 15 °C and a maximum of 24 ºC; that of Castelló, 14 and 23; and that of Valencia, of 15 and 23 ºC.
