“The testimonies of many women are lost, I am very afraid”

Meta, the parent company of the social network instagramhas closed the journalist’s account Cristina You Will Failwhich in recent days was published through it testimonies of women who have suffered sexual assaults, such as the one that caused the resignation of Inigo Errejón.

In statements to TVE’s 24-hour channel, Fallarás said that “at this moment I am furious and very afraid, because since I published the testimony against Errejón this week, I have received a thousand messages and many of them were stories about sexual assaults carried out by other politicians, cultural people, journalists… and if that account is not returned to me , all those testimonies are lost.”

The veteran journalist has said that the Meta movement “seems very serious and an attack against all. It is an account where women tell stories, those who use it are women,” she said.

Fallarás says that he has received more than 1,000 messages these days and he has not been able to read them all, but in “the ones that I have been opening there were cases of other politicians, people from culture and the media.”

The journalist explained that something similar had already happened to her “in March, I appealed and they opened it again because European data protection bodies told me that did not violate any law of Meta. I download the messages once a week and I don’t have this week’s messages downloaded,” he laments.

Regarding the reasons why Meta has closed its account, Fallarás says that they are the same as in March, “that is, none.” The journalist says that she has appealed and that Meta has until April 2025 to respond, “and if they continue thinking the same they will permanently disable my account.”

“I am going to get back in touch with Meta Europa, with Meta USA and send the necessary documents again, I will file a legal claim and do everything in my power,” says Fallarás, who regrets that the fact that “they closed This account is to close women’s complaints about sexual assault. It is discouraging for the victims, which we already denounced with little courage”.

As for his next steps, he says that “the first thing is to try to get it reopened. I had to leave Twitter because they expelled medue to the attacks of the bots and the violence against me, it took to the streets. “If Instagram doesn’t allow me, I’ll get it another way.”

However, he warns that he has been “working on a book compiling testimonies and it will be published”, although he admits that “what worries me most is the moment when they close it again. It’s not coincidental that just at that moment in which I have hundreds of stories, they disappear.

“I’ve been doing this for a year and a half, and nothing has changed. The only thing that has changed is that a politician has resigned because of the testimony of a woman. That is the reason,” says Fallarás.

Despite everything, he is optimistic: “It is unstoppable, there are many of us, I am one more. It makes me angry because I think my profile had become a useful platform, Even for the media, having managed to create a safe space and having it blown up is terrible. “Once the reporting and reporting mechanism is launched, we have become accustomed to having obstacles put in place, but it will find its way and I will not give up.”

You will fail, remember that when you have the opportunity you will make public all the stories that have reached you, “but no names are published”. “The first testimony did not mention Errejón, because the women knew how to identify who they were pointing to,” he explains.

“As soon as they return my account I will continue publishing testimonials. I have one from (a politician from) the CUP, another of the esquerra Valencian, another from a media outlet…”, he said.

Fallarás added that she also suffered “sexual assault by a politician. I remember a very high official from the Generalitat of Catalonia who he sent me the photo of his penisMany years ago, it was by SMS, there was no WhatsApp. I had to leave political journalism because my legs were shaking. I do not name him because he is no longer among us. Being terrified of meeting a very important man in the Generalitat prevented me from developing as a political journalist,” he says.
