The potato omelette from the O Cabo restaurant in A Coruña, the best in Spain

The chef Ramón Rodríguez, from the restaurant Or Cape of A Coruñahas achieved the title of best potato omelette of Spain in the XVII National Championship-Tescoma Trophy, held at the Alicante Gastronomic Fair.

This culinary event, held at the Fira Alacant fairgrounds in Elche, has crowned O Cabo in this specialty in a final with almost twenty applicants of seven autonomous communities.

Rodríguez relieves Pedro José Román, of Cañadio (Cantabria)who obtained this title in 2023, and Alberto García Ponte, from Mesón O Pote (Betanzos)and Carlos Olabuenaga, from Tizona (Logroño)which they shared two years ago.

The chef from A Coruña wins this award 3,000 euros while the second prize went this Sunday to Alejandro Oliveira from The Skirt (Madrid)who wins 2,000 euros, and the third was achieved by Samu Curbeira, from Ankha Coffee from El Ferrol, with 1,000.

The Galician Rodríguez has developed “a very simple omeletwhich is nothing special, which everyone likes” and pointed out that “the most difficult thing has been the competition and the high level of all the participants.”

The team led by the chef from O Cabo hopes and trusts that the public and customers will value this award, which “is a great recognition to all the years of work that we have accumulated in this world of gastronomy.

The president of the jury, Rafael García Santos, has assured that there has been a “high level” and that a large number of tortillas have exceeded the score of eight, “which demonstrates the difficulty of determining the champion of this edition.”

The jury in charge of evaluating the tortillas was made up of personalities from the culinary world which includes the journalist Pepa Fernández, as well as José Gómez ‘Joselito’, the pastry chef Paco Torreblanca, Kiko Moya (L’Escaleta), Carme Ruscalleda (Moments Mandarin Oriental), Fran Martínez (Maralba), Alberto Ferruz (BonAmb) and Senén González (La Cocina de Senén).

In addition to the top three finishers, The participants in this new edition have been Alberto García Ponte, from Mesón O Pote (Betanzos); Ricardo Martín, from Posada Pradorey (Gumiel del Mercado); Pedro José Román, from Cañadío (Santander); Ángel Marugal, La Concordia (Logroño); Celia Clara Correia, la Teulada Cafetería (Elche) and Javier Izquierdo, Mesón El Viso (Gumiel del Mercado).

Also Alberto Villegas, from San Remo (Palencia); Borja Olano, Kapadokia Gastrobar (San Sebastián); Carlos Olabuenaga, from Tizona (Logroño); Raúl Rubio, Txiki Bar and Tortillería (Vitoria-Gasteiz); Dana Rotaru, from Nou Pinet (Alicante); Carlos Boado, from El Caserío de Tión (Coíros); Adrián Cuevas, from Hotel Cortijo Santa Cruz (Villanueva de la Serena) and Kamela Meghazi, from Kutako Taberna (Betanzos).
