Andorra la VellaThe Home Care Service (SAD) served a total of 219 people over the course of last year, fifty less than in 2021, when the number of services, as stated at the time by the Minister of Social Affairs, Judith Pallarés, in a parliamentary response, was 268. It should be noted that the majority profile among these users is a person over 85 years old with a degree of dependency of 2 out of 3. This is, in many cases , of people who live alone and/or whose family cannot take care of them; people who are in an end-of-life process and who want to continue living at home or people who, due to their age, need support to continue living at home. The service also provides help to the main carers for the daily care of their relatives.
By parish, it should be noted that 73 of the people served were from Andorra la Vella; 52 of Escaldes-Engordany; 30 of Sant Julià de Lòria; 23 of the Massana, the same number as of Encamp; eleven from Ordino and seven from Canillo.
It should be remembered that among the main tasks carried out by SAD workers is support for hygiene and personal care; physical-motor assistance for actions such as getting up, lying down or walking; care and control of food; monitoring of medication intake; support in habits of daily life such as eating, organizing the home, etc.; guidance and support of caregivers and also influence socialization, taking into account the fact that many of the people cared for live alone.
It should be remembered that it was in 2017 when the Government took over the service, which until then depended on the different communes, in application of the law on social and socio-health services, which determined that the competence corresponded to the executive.
