The Government of Argentina estimates that there are 47,000 migrants from that country in Chile: the number has decreased in the last decade

The Argentine government estimated that Some 47,000 citizens of that country have emigrated to Chilealthough the figure decreased in the last decade according to information from the Migration authorities of the trans-Andean country, based on data from consulates and electoral organizations.

In a presentation he made in Congress, the head of the national cabinet, Nicolás Posse, responded to questions about the departure of Argentines to Spain, Italy, the United States and Chile from 2013 to 2023.

Posse warned that the available data are nothing more than estimates, although They do show an approximate number of Argentines installed in those countries and their fluctuation over the last decade.

The greatest presence of Argentines is observed in Spain which last year reached 510,000 people. In Italy the numbers of trans-Andean migrants have suffered fluctuations. While in 2013 220,000 Argentines resided in Italian territory, in 2017 they dropped to 130,000 and last year they reached 170,000.

In the case of Chile, according to government data, the number of Argentine migrants decreased in the last decade: went from an estimated 69,000 people to around 47,000. A similar phenomenon can be detected in the data provided by Argentines in USA, those who They fell from 280,000 in 2013 to around 240,000 in 2023.

If the estimates from the Argentine consulates in Spain, Italy, the United States and Chile are added, in 2023 there was 967,000 Argentines settled in these four countriesagainst 909,000 in 2013.

Posse clarified that, to prepare the data table, the definition of migrant provided by the International Organization for Migrationaccording to which “those who have left the country and have not returned within a minimum period of one year should be considered an immigrant, regardless of whether or not they have established residence in another country.”
