“The Government does not stabilize people”

A demonstration in Madrid ordered this Saturday solutions “to the problem” of temporary employment in public employment and has announced this “abuse”, which affects the majority of the interims currently in Spain, some 755,000: “Despite the rulings of the CJEU, the Government remains committed to stabilizing places and not people,” he denounced.

Under the motto We are not squares, we are peoplethe concentration, called by the Union Against Temporality in the Employment public and to which some have attended 5,000 peopleaccording to the organizers, has asked for the job stabilization of staff affected by temporary employment, who see “their job stability, their home and their future at risk.”

One of the protesters Concepción Sáenz, who will lose her job after 24 years of public service imminently, stated: “I changed positions at the end of October 2022, the year in which I got a reserved place in the Department of Development, Housing and Logistics and Territorial Cohesion of Aragon and a few months ago they told me that, when the administrative situation changed, my position became a vacancy, which means that I would be dismissed a year before my contract ended. . There is no no one fixed to occupy my position. It is incomprehensible,” said Sáenz.

“The Government does not stabilize people”

As they have denounced in a statement, “stabilizing personnel in fraud of law is the solution to lower the interim rate from the current 30% to 8% that the European Union demands.” The platform, which brings together 22 organizations and unions from all over Spain and has the support of 51 other entities, has requested, verbatim, the immediate end to layoffs and guaranteed job stability for those who have been holding temporary contracts for more than three years for the same employing Administration.

It has also demanded the reinstatement of personnel dismissed in processes that do not comply with European regulations. They also hope that this Saturday’s concentration will be a “turning point” for “Spain to take effective measures” and the spokesperson for the Union of Workers for Public Employment of Aragon (STEPA), David Mansilla, has indicated that “this situation is unfair because the lack of stability not only impacts the workers, but also their families.

For her part, the delegate of the Union of Base Commissions (co.bas) in the Community of MadridMaite Agredano, has detailed that “none of the measures implemented so far has managed to significantly reduce the interim rate.” The convening organizations have called for a “true stabilization processin accordance with the rulings of the CJEU“and have urged the Government to modify the TREBEP (Basic Statute of Public Employees), recognizing the “right to stability of personnel.”
