Spain continues to be shocked by the death of the lieutenant colonel Pablo Estradawho died this Friday when the F-18 crashed that he was piloting in Teruel. However, it is striking that this accident occurred 40 years after another with similar characteristics: both occurred in the town of Peralejos, on a Friday the 4th and almost at the same time.
In the accident that occurred on May 4, 1984 at 1:30 p.m., captains José Hernández Ferry, 33, and Gonzalo García, 26, died. They were flying a Phantom and both were part of the 12th Wing of the 121st Squadron at the base Torrejón de Ardoz. However, unlike Lieutenant Colonel Estrada, the captains yes they would have been able to get out of the aircraftwith the bad luck that despite that they still died, according to The Herald of Aragon.
But these are not the only coincidences, since despite the fact that the accident 40 years ago occurred in the month of May, next Monday, October 7, a event to commemorate to the captains who died at that time. The event will take place at the site where the residents of the town of Peralejos placed a monument in honor of the military.
The event will feature the presence of the mayor Carlos López Latorre, the deputy colonel of Defense in Teruel Salvador Medrano Juárez and the colonel Chief of the 12th Wing José María Alonso Martínez. Other civil and military authorities will also be present.
