Edward and Sophie from Edinburgh have paid their particular tribute to Elizabeth II on her Christmas Day this 2024, after the youngest son of the remembered monarch wanted to have this special and nostalgic wink with his parents. A very significant tribute that says many things, mainly the fact that the couple wants to reflect with it who their great role models are.
To do this, the couple has emulated the photograph that they starred in 75 years ago. Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during his official trip to Malta. Then, as now, they have been immortalized in the residence Villa Guardamangia (Pietà ) that the late queen had in this central Mediterranean archipelago (and which is currently property and cultural heritage of the country).
In the first black and white snapshot, taken on November 25, 1949, we see the former head of state with her husband in her first years of marriage. They lived there until 1951, while the latter was stationed in Valletta as an officer in the British Royal Navy.
In the second image, the dukes of edinburgh in the same position when they visited Malta on October 9. That is, facing the camera but looking tenderly into each other’s eyes while smiling. She, wearing a beautiful flowered dress on that day of sun and pleasant temperatures that accompanied them, and he in an elegant gray suit.
Of course, as has been warned by the English press, there has been a small photo retouching so that the duality would be completely reflected. In this sense, the positions of Prince Edward (60 years old) and his wife (59) in the image have been exchanged, from left to right and vice versa, so that the sequence looked the same as in the old photo.
In addition, this year’s Christmas card includes a third image, the one the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh took last July on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. Surrounded by nature, they were photographed in the gardens of their house in Bagshot Park, in Windsor, for this important anniversary, their silver wedding anniversary.
Last Thursday, the pair made their final public appearance as they headed to Buckingham Palace for a pre-Christmas lunch with King Charles III. In addition, there were a few days of celebration for the family for the 17th birthday -two days before- of his best son, James of Wessexturned into a young and handsome count.
