The challenge of the future is the present, it is today

The challenge of the future is the present, it is today

The specter of insecurity threatens governance, violates political stability, and wears down and calls into question the temperance of authority. The latest regrettable acts of violence recorded in Guerrero, Chiapas, Sinaloa and other states exhibit the structural weakness and fragility of the national security policy.

People feel fear, anxiety and insecurity. The figures from the National Urban Public Security Survey, published by INEGI in recent days, are alarming. This syndrome of political and social decomposition should be the neuralgic topic of the national debate. It is urgently resolved. That the authorities assume their responsibility is a popular demand.

Time is in a hurry, it has already caught up with us, it is inexorable. President Sheinbaum has to restore, with a change of direction, the rule of law, the credibility and trust of Mexicans. If we do not resolve this delicate political issue, we will put at risk the commercial and economic opportunities that the new times offer us.

The current government has the possibility of achieving success in this task. Geopolitics is a preponderant ally in the national design. The Free Trade Agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada catalyzed the opportunities to reactivate our economy. It is fair to recognize this visionary government action. Our geographical proximity to our northern neighbors becomes a gateway to opportunities. Let us open it with intelligence and political determination.

It is time for this government to begin a new fortunate stage and also take advantage of the situation to turn its eyes to the forgotten Mexico of the southern border and implement a public policy that converts it into a special development zone, guaranteeing security and establishing stimuli to national and international private investment.

In my opinion, we should not waste time in fruitless skirmishes. They are harmless and exhausting distractors. We must build political agreements to achieve democratic consensus that avoid major conflicts. The lack of dialogue leads to a cliff, let us remember Díaz Ordaz. Political opening would strengthen the presidential figure before national and international public opinion.

There are many problems and challenges in our country. The president is encountering surprises behind the door, but she must prioritize her attention to solving the most delicate and urgent issues: insecurity, judicial reform, lack of water, electricity generation, migration and attention to the southern border, which can become a major problem.

In this region the conditions for conflict are present. The haze is about to disappear. Poverty, marginalization, racism, insecurity and discrimination could be the agitators of the insurgency. There are many interests at stake that would encourage confrontation with a mask of justice.
