The transition from a shelter to a loving home can be a challenging journey for both dogs and their new owners. However, videos like this one prove that it’s worth it.
Yesterday (October 1), Ruby Downing, 20, (@rubyydowningg), racked up 538,000 views on a video featuring her husband, Edger, and their pitbull, Bub, who was rescued from the euthanasia list. The montage, arranged chronologically, shows how the 1-year-old dog transformed from a petrified pup into a confident canine.
The text overlaid on the video reads: “How it feels when your life was going to end, but someone came in and decided you were worth it.”
The first scene shows Bub lying on the floor of his shelter enclosure with Edger nearby. Bub appears timid and cautious—this behavior continues when he is taken home by the couple from Tennessee, as seen in the clips.
Bub initially refused to walk up the stairs and hid in their pantry, but after receiving plenty of tender love and care, he soon became comfortable. The next few scenes are sure to boost your serotonin as Bub transforms into a completely different dog.
He appears content and full of happiness as he plays, relaxes, and even enjoys car rides as a front-seat passenger.
This transformation has made a lasting impression online, amassing 120,800 likes and over 1,700 comments.
One user noted how Bub’s fur changed, writing: “The way her white gets whiter, her brown… browner, and her face happier just makes me tear up.”
Another commented: “[His] ears bloomed like a flower. Thank you so much for saving this beautiful baby; you deserve the best things in life.”
A third commenter highlighted the importance of adopting rather than shopping for a dog, as mentioned in the caption. She said: “All these babies are worth it; we just need to give them the opportunity to shine.”

According to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), a combined total of 6.3 million cats and dogs enter U.S. animal shelters per year, which is a decline from 7.2 million in 2011. There has also been a significant drop in the amount of shelter animals that are euthanized yearly.
In 2011, around 2.6 million animals were put down per year and now it is about 920,000. This reduction in euthanasia is partly due to increased adoptions and more stray animals being returned to their owners. Annually, 4.1 million animals are adopted, and around 810,000 strays are returned to their owners (710,000 dogs and 100,000 cats).
