“Suitcase Skeleton” from Sinn: Unsolved murder back after 43 years on “Aktenzeichen XY” | hessenschau.de

Over 40 years ago, walkers in Sinn found a burned body in a suitcase. Despite an appeal on the ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY” in the 1980s, the identity of the victim has not been clarified to this day. Now the case is on the program again.

It is November 16, 1981. Walkers find a black suitcase on a forest road in the Stippbachtal near Sinn (Lahn-Dill). Inside: a burned skeleton.

Forensic medical examinations come to the conclusion that the deceased was a 40-45 year old man who was killed about four weeks earlier.

The detectives suspect that the body was transported to the site after the crime and set on fire. But although a dental prosthesis provides an initial clue, from this point on the investigation is at a dead end.

New investigative approaches

A Kiel detective manages to reconstruct the victim’s face using plasticine – a modeling clay. However, this does not lead to any clues about his identity, nor does the ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY… unsolved”, in which the crime in July 1985 is the subject.

On Wednesday, more than four decades after the body was found, the case is back in the program of Broadcast. There are new investigative approaches “to the body discovery and the previous history,” a police spokesman told the hr on Monday.

Victim possibly key witness

According to the spokesman, there are indications that the victim could have been a key witness in a court case against two restaurateurs from Herborn. However, the hearing ultimately collapsed because the witness did not appear.

The case was brought to the ZDF editorial team again in order to obtain further information about the two defendants – and the identity of the victim.

If this can finally be clarified after 43 years, it will also set the direction for further investigations. Because: “Homicide crimes do not expire,” said the spokesman.
