Squid Game season two teaser from Netflix shows recruiter returning and inviting man to play ddakji

Netflix released a new teaser for the upcoming highly anticipated second season of its hit series Squid Game.

The teaser video posted on YouTube featured the game recruiter portrayed by Gong Yoo, 49, and opened with his morning routine with classical music and a ticking clock in the background.

The recruiter after showering and dressing packed his briefcase that held money, business cards and ddakji.

He left a subway train and checked his watch on the platform as ominous music started to play.

‘Sir,’ the recruiter said looking directly into the camera.

‘Would you like to play a game with me?,’ he asked with a sly smile while holding up red and blue ddakji.

‘Get Back In The Game’ a title card read as viewers were informed that Squid Game 2 will be only on Netflix on December 26.

The same recruiter enticed Squid Game protagonist Seong Gi-hun [Lee Jung-jae] who was player 456 in the 2021 series that received critical acclaim while becoming Netflix’s most-watched series.

A synopsis of season two read: ‘Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.’

Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who made history at the 74th Primetime Emmys as the first Asian to win Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, returns to the series as director, writer, and producer.

Lee Byung-hun and Wi Ha-jun also are returning to reprise their roles from the original series.

The new cast members include: Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.

Season one of Squid Games earned 14 Emmy Awards nominations and it won six prizes including Best Drama actor, Best Drama Guest Actress, Best Drama Directing as well as awards for production design, stunt performance, and visual effects.

The South Korean dystopian survival thriller series will have a third and final season in 2025.

The streaming service has not given an exact date for the third and final season, but has confirmed it will debut sometime in 2025. 

A teaser released in August showed the return of protagonist Gi-hun, the sole survivor of the original game, who hoped that winning would turn his life around for his daughter. 

Squid Game amassed more than 1.65 billion global viewing hours in its first 28 days and became the first show ever to have been watched by over 100 million Netflix accounts (111 million) in that time frame.

The 2021 series followed a secret contest where 456 people in dire financial straits were brought to play a deadly game that could make them incredibly wealthy.
