A man has been charged with murder after a 37-year-old was attacked by a group of masked men and fatally stabbed in an attack in Sydney’s west this year.
The stabbing victim and his friend had eaten a pizza in their car before walking to a friend’s home along Bangor Street in Guildford about 1.45pm on July 20 when a group of three men, clad in black clothes and face coverings, jumped out of a vehicle and chased them.

During the confrontation, the 37-year-old was stabbed in the stomach. Police said the victim’s friend managed to distract one of the offenders and escape, but the victim was severely beaten and stabbed.
The injured man’s friend retrieved his car and drove him to Westmead Hospital where he died from his injuries.
Police said a 23-year-old man was arrested at Silverwater correctional facility at 11am on Thursday. He was charged with murder and participation in a criminal group and criminal activity, and was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Friday.
Another 23-year-old man was arrested over the stabbing on July 26 when police executed a search warrant on a hotel room in Ryde. That man was also charged with murder and is due to appear in Parramatta Local Court on November 21.
At the time of the stabbing, police said the man who was stabbed had no links to organised crime or bikie gangs, and the motive was unclear. It was a concern they were attacked “in the middle of the day, in the middle of the street,” Superintendent Andrew Holland said.
“They knew what they were up to, and our victim and our witness were in the wrong place at the wrong time by the looks [of it],” he said.
Police are still investigating the alleged murder and are appealing to the public to help identify two men seen in Merrylands on July 20 who they believe may be able to assist in the investigation.
