Santos closes Paulistão with only 3 wins; no team qualified

Santos started the 2023 season with turbulence in the first Paulistão games.

The fans expressed their opinion about Peixe’s performance and asked for more reinforcements for the club’s board.

The crowd’s request was met and Santos brought four more names with the Paulista Championship in progress.

Alvinegro Praiano, who fought not to be relegated, even fought for a place until the last round of Paulistão.

However, the 3-0 defeat against Ituano, who were fighting not to be relegated and ended up advancing in the competition, ended Peixe’s dream.

In Group A, for Santos, Red Bull Bragantino and Botafogo-SP advanced to the knockout stage, with one more victory than Peixe.

Santos only won three matches at Paulistao in 2023

In all, there are 12 games in the first phase of the Paulista Championship and Peixe only managed to leave with three points in three opportunities.

In the debut of the competition, against Mirassol, at the turn, Santos came out with a 2-1 victory in Paulistão.

The club was in Group B of the Campeonato Paulista and, with 15 points, ended up in third place.

Peixe’s second victory was against São Bento, by 1-0 and the rival also did not qualify, finishing 3rd in Group C.

Closing, Santos thrashed Portuguesa by 4-0 in Vila Belmiro and the team narrowly escaped relegation.

After winning the last round, Portuguesa ended the Paulista Championship with the last place in Group D.

With the elimination in Paulistão, Santos is left with only the Brazil’s Cup until the start of the Brazilian Championship, scheduled for April 16.
