Days after being fired from Flamengo, Jorge Sampaoli spoke out for the first time via social media. The coach left his position last week after a series of bad results and episodes involving, especially his coaching staff, which reportedly left the atmosphere bad. In the words, there was a certain regret for not having achieved the goals he had dreamed of.
On his Instagram, Sampaoli says that he will cherish the experience he had during this period and left a special thank you to the staff, players and fans.
“Our dreams are not always realized as we hope. Unfortunately, for countless reasons prior to my arrival and which I tried but was unable to change, it was not possible to achieve the results to put Flamengo where it should be. I will always remember the crowded, pulsating Maracanã. It’s football’s biggest stage! I would like to thank the staff, players, coaching staff and fans for their support over these 5 months. A hug”, wrote Sampaoli.
Sampaoli’s dismissal was made official four days after the draw with São Paulo that resulted in the loss of the Copa do Brasil title. In a meeting that lasted less than 10 minutes in a hotel in the Rio neighborhood of Barra da Tijuca, Flamengo informed the professional of his departure.
– It was very quick, very calm. A lawyer and one other person. It was very quick even for the subject. Come on, life goes on, let’s do what we have to do – said Marcos Braz, in quick contact with ge.com
As the Argentine coach had a contract in force until the end of 2024, the club will have to pay a termination fine valued at 1.8 million euros (around R$9.5 million at current prices).
Since April at Flamengo, Sampaoli has had 20 wins, 11 draws and eight defeats.
