The fragment of the ceiling of a hallway in the clinic 89 Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS)located in Guadalajaracollapsed this Tuesday, October 22, although no injuries were reported.
The collapse occurred within the operating room area of the unit located at the intersection of Agustín Yañez and Chapultepec Sur Beltwayin the Moderna neighborhood.
For this reason, the delegation spokesperson activated the Civil Protection protocol, evacuated personnel and delimited access to the area, establishing a security perimeter.
Jointly, with the services of Municipal Civil Protection, The causes are evaluated to proceed with the immediate rehabilitation of the affected area: “The ceilings will be removed, and a ruling will be made regarding the structure to find out the reason for what happened,” says a statement from the IMSS.
The director of comprehensive fire risk management Guadalajara, Darani López Souza explained that the fragment of collapsed ceiling measures three meters long by 1.80 meters wide, so “remodeling work is being carried out inside the clinic.”
He also ruled out an issue of structural risk for the property and stressed that at the time of the collapse there were no patients because the area was not authorized. For this reason, he recommended to the holders of the corresponding areas of IMSS that a structural opinion of the property be carried out, “this to rule out any additional situation, for the useful life of the property.”
The review of the hospital structure must be carried out with some agency contracted by the IMSS, since it is a federal issue that escapes the municipal sphere: “We cannot carry out a ruling issue or an expert opinion issue due to the remodeling issue, adjustments are being made”
The Guadalajara fire department personnel remained outside the hospital for more than two hours, as well as elements of municipal medical services and the red crosssince they were not allowed access.
