Robert Schwartzman, from the Ferrari Driver Academy to Ferrari Competizione GT

When Ferrari unveiled the 2023 promotion of its Ferrari Driver Academy two days ago, some were surprised by the absence of Robert Schwartzman. After having shone in karting, the 24-year-old Russian won the FIA F3 European Championship in 2019 with Prema before finishing 4th then 2nd in the FIA F2 behind Oscar Piastri but ahead of Guanyu Zhou, Dan Ticktum and Théo Pourchaire. And this always under the colors of the Italian formation.

Last year, he served as a reserve for Scuderia Ferrari in F1, notably jumping into Charles Leclerc’s single-seater during the first free practice session of the United States Grand Prix, in Austin (Texas / USA ). A position he will still occupy this year alongside Antonio Giovinazzi.

If he would have been dredged by Lamborghini / Iron Lynx and carried out convincing tests in IndyCar, the native of Tel Aviv (Israel) has decided to remain within the bosom of Ferrari. And let’s bet that the arrival of the Italian firm in Hypercar has something to do with it, even if the six bucket seats have already been filled for 2023.

This year, Schwartzman will cut his teeth in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, a championship he will compete in a Ferrari 296 GT3 entered under the AF Corse banner and shared with Nicklas Nielsen and Alessio Rovera. He will therefore be at the start of the 24 Hours of Spa.

It should also be noted that in view of the measures taken against Russia in the conflict between the country and Ukraine, the person concerned now wears the colors of Israel.
