Prince William reveals that he and Kate Middleton let ‘their little dog Orla’ sleep in the bed with them

Prince William has revealed that he and the Princess of Wales let their little dog Orla sleep on the bed with them.

Louise Harland, whose pup was fussed over by the royal, 42, after his visit to the Duchy College Stoke Climsland in Callington, Cornwall, today, said how the future King opened up about his own pet when chatting with her.

‘[He was] absolutely in love with my little dog,’ she told Hits Radio Cornwall. ‘Jacks came and met him.

‘And he asked what breed he was and he’s never met one of those breeds – he’s a cockerjack – so he’s a little bit of a unique combination.’

She said William remarked on how ‘soft’ her pooch’s ears were, and ‘gave him lots of loving’.

‘[He] said that his little dog sleeps on the bed with them at night, with him and Kate,’ Louise also added.

Video shared by Greatest Hits Radio News showed a delighted William petting the sweet pup, and saying: ‘My dog is exactly like this… loves cuddles.’

The Prince and Princess of Wales currently have a spaniel called Orla, who was given to the family in the summer of 2020 by Kate’s brother, James Middleton.

She proved to be a great source of comfort when they lost Lupo, their first black spaniel, in November 2020.

Kate and William had doted on Lupo since they got him as a puppy in 2012 – a year after they married.

While Lupo was the Italian for ‘wolf’, Orla is Celtic in origin and means ‘golden princess’.

Prince William also earlier made another new four-legged friend during his Cornwall visit.

The royal beamed as an excited pup called Ripper jumped and pawed at him, clearly excited to receive attention from the future King.

The heir to the throne was walking by the animal management department when a dog on a leash enthusiastically sprung into action as William walked past.

The delighted Prince leaned down to pet the pooch and appeared to ask questions about the programme.

Earlier in the day, William joined students in taking part in a mock crime scene investigation.

The exercise was just one he took as he visited the college to learn about how it is providing opportunities for young people in rural areas.

The Prince of Wales, who also holds the title of Duke of Cornwall, inherited the Duchy from his father, when Charles became monarch.

Duchy College specialises in running land-based degrees in Southwest England, across a range of areas including, equine science, agriculture and horticulture.

The Stoke Climsland campus that William – who is known as the Duke of Cornwall when he visits the area – will be visiting is part of the Stoke Climsland Farm Cluster, a group of 23 farms, including several Duchy farms, which are working together to create environmental change.

Cornwall County Council was originally leased the land by the Duchy of Cornwall in 1984, for a new County Agricultural College.

Since then, the site has expanded, with the latest addition being the Future Farm facility.

The Duchy has been a long-standing advocate for the college, with the Land Steward team participating in the assessment of Year 2 Agriculture students, where the students run a mock farm tender exercise at a Duchy farm.

This experience is  described as an invaluable part of their course as they delve into all aspects of how to run a farming business.

As well as being a hub for agricultural studies, the college also provides 86 courses across apprenticeships, degree programs and adult courses to help people foster a successful career.

Among the key courses at the Stoke Climsland campus are Armed Forces and emergency services; business; community health; construction; veterinary nursing; and sports and fitness.

When he arrived at the college, the Duke was greeted by Duchy College staff, before engaging in a CSI training exercise by students who are enrolled in the Military & Protective Services Academy at the college.

The Academy provides courses for those interested in a career in the blue light services and Armed Forces, allowing students to learn from experienced professionals in both sectors.

Students on the course, are equipped with essential skills including physical fitness and mental resilience.

Following this, His Royal Highness he visited a student run café on campus and heard from students who are part of the Future Farm programme. On departure, The Duke was planning to meet with other students on campus.

Prince William’s outing today marked his third public appearance in a week.

Last night, he attended the Centrepoint Awards – a charity of which he is patron – making a speech in which he called for a movement that creates ‘systemic change’ to end homelessness.

The occasion celebrates the achievements of young people who have transformed their lives after experiencing homelessness.

Speaking at the event, held at the British Museum on Wednesday, the Prince of Wales, 42, said he is ‘inspired by the ambition and commitment of all the award winners and nominees’.

‘You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves,’ he continued. ‘What inspires me the most about the young people here this evening, is that they have not only overcome homelessness to achieve their personal ambitions, but they are also all contributing to the communities in which they live… be that through teaching, fundraising or volunteering.

‘While homelessness is of course a complex societal issue, I passionately believe that it can, and should, be ended.’

Earlier that day, the royal was snapped as he led an investiture ceremony, honouring 57 people.

Among them was New Zealand‘s prime minister Jacinda Ardern, who was given a damehood during the event held at Windsor Castle today.

His friendship with Jacinda, 44, was on full show as the two interacted. Smiling broadly in each other’s company, the two friends were pictured looking comfortable as the Prince of Wales pinned the honour onto her sash, near her waist.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, he made another public outing, attended a community event in London.

By appearing at the event, which was hosted by the NFL Foundation, he helped bring more attention to the foundation’s efforts to use flag football to help young people living in some of the UK’s most deprived areas.
