Prep highlights: River boys nearly knock off first-place Mark Morris

Columbia River put up a tough fight but it wasn’t enough to stop one of the hottest boys basketball teams in Southwest Washington.

Kobe Parlin scored 29 points as Mark Morris earned its 13th straight win, an 80-73 2A GSHL victory Thursday in Longview.

Columbia River led 71-69 with two minutes to play. But Braydon Olson got a transition basket off a steal to put Mark Morris ahead with 1:22 left.

Parlin then hit a contested jumper to give Mark Morris (14-1, 11-0) a 76-73 lead with 27 seconds left. Columbia River (5-10, 5-6) followed with a missed 3-point attempt and resorted to fouling.

Hezekiah Ponder scored 18 points for the Rapids. John Reeder added 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers.

RIDGEFIELD 54, HOCKINSON 30 — The Spudders hit 11 3-pointers and clamped down on defense to earn a 2A GSHL home win.

Cole Chester hit five 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 15 points. Colten Chester added 14 points and Sid Bryant scored 13 points for Ridgefield (8-7, 7-4).

Ridgefield led 43-21 after outscoring Hockinson 14-4 in the third quarter.

Igor Povazhniuk scored 10 points and Logan Wall added eight points for Hockinson (4-10, 2-9).

WOODLAND 78, FORT VANCOUVER 28 — Justin Philpot scored 14 points to lead five Beavers in double-figured during a 2A GSHL road win.

Drew Burns added 13 points and hit four of Woodland’s 11 3-pointers. Gus Heidgerken scored 12 points while Dane Huddleston and Sam Jeschke each had 11 points.

Girls basketball

SKYVIEW 79, PRAIRIE 48 — The Storm offense was on first in the first half, building a 55-23 halftime lead en route to a non-league home win.

Chanelle Paschal scored 13 points to lead five scorers in double figures for Skyview (11-4). Sam Groesbeck and Lainey Phillips each has 12 points while Charlotte Baker and Kaydance Stratton each scored 10 points.

Maddie Clouse scored 16 points and Claire Smith added 12 points for Prairie (8-7).

LA CENTER 50, STEVENSON 30 — Gianna D’Emilio had 14 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals to lead the Wildcats to a Trico League home win.

Mekenzie Schockelt added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sheala Bradley had nine points and eight assists for La Center (5-10, 3-3), which has won two straight after snapping a four-game losing streak.

Stevenson (5-10, 1-5) trailed 26-5 at halftime.

SETON CATHOLIC 61, COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 47 — Anna Mooney had 23 points and 12 rebounds as the Cougars stayed perfect in Trico League play with a road win in the Gorge.

Seton Catholic (15-1, 6-0) fell into a quick 7-0 hole but rebounded to lead 22-12 after the first quarter. The Cougars led by as much as 19 points in the fourth quarter.

Hannah Jo Hammerstrom had 13 points and seven rebounds for Seton. Remy Jenniges added 12 points.

Sydney Aman and Teagan Blankenship each scored 10 points for the Bruins (7-6, 2-3).

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 44, CASTLE ROCK 31 — Ella Zimmerman and Bridget Quinn each scored 12 points as the Knights won the Trico League game at Castle Rock.

Zimmerman also had nine rebounds and three assists, while Quinn also had six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Izzy Hill contributed 12 rebounds to go with her six points, and Hannah Erwin had nine points for King’s Way (7-7, 5-1).

Laynee Logan led Castle Rock (1-12, 0-5) with 12 points.

Mia Caggianese, Heritage girls bowling — Rolled 186-232 to lead the Timberwolves to a 1665-1488 win over Battle Ground at Big Al’s.
