The entire island of Cuba lost power on Friday, leaving its population of 10 million in the dark, according to Cuban officials.
Cuba’s Energy Ministry said the electricity went out after one of the island’s main power plants failed.
The Cuban government tried to avoid the power outage earlier in the day by closing schools and having most state workers stay home. However, the energy conservation effort wasn’t enough to prevent a grid failure at the power plant.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
