A man is wanted in a hate-motivated assault at Bloor-Yonge subway on Wednesday, Toronto police said.
In a press release, police said the incident happened at around 8:30 a.m.
Police allege a man struck a person’s head and dislodging their religious head covering, which fell into the ground.
The suspect then directed “derogatory comments” towards the victim and then fled the scene, police said.
The suspect was seen wearing a blue hat and jacket while carrying a black bag at the moment of the incident.
No further information on the suspect has been provided so far.
“Hateful acts like this are totally unacceptable. Hate has no place in our city,” Mayor John Tory said in a tweet. “We must all call out and stand together against discrimination and violence,” Tory added.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call police.
