Flamengo has been going through a season of ups and downs, with a lot of pressure due to disappointments in the competitions played in 2023. Last Monday (25), Petkovic gave an interview to TV scoreboard commenting on the Rubro-Negro campaign this year. In Pet’s view, Flamengo started the year making bad decisions and the situation got worse, but now they must leave that behind and focus on confirming a place for the next Libertadores.
“Unfortunately, Flamengo started making a lot more decisions and getting more and more lost, perhaps in vanity, which we all have”, pointed out Petkovic about Flamengo’s season. According to the former player, the Gávea club did not respond well to the difficulties faced and the situation was worsening the situation.
“I think (Flamengo) really needs to be rethought, a lot. Flamengo’s situation is not… It’s disastrous due to Flamengo’s size, but hey, it came to six decisions. So, he had a chance to win. So it has quality. It’s frustrating because it never really happened”, said the Serb, before indicating what the Gávea club’s big ‘target’ should be in 2023.
“Under these circumstances, I think that the Libertadores, for Flamengo, would be a very important, essential and good-sized thing”, concluded Petkovic. This is because, in the idol’s opinion, Rubro-Negro would need a ‘very big’ event to turn the key and be able, in fact, to compete for the title of this Brasileirão. Check out:

The focus of the former Serbian midfielder’s analysis, Rubro-Negro started the year with big dreams, as they had seven competitions ahead of them. However, with a series of controversies and disappointments, the Gávea club currently plays only for the Brasileirão, where it has little chance of entering the fight for the title.
Last Saturday (30), the Flamengo hosted Bahia at Maracanã and won 1-0, finding a positive result after fasting. At the moment, Rubro-Negro occupies 5th place in the Brazilian Championship, with 43 points, eight points behind leader Botafogo, who is still playing this Monday (2).
