Pension reform: the recap of the demonstration in Nancy in three points

The meeting was given at 2:30 p.m. Place de la République at Nancy to demonstrate against the pension reform. Back on this first day of mobilization in three points.

The revendications

“Metro, job, tomb”, could we read on the sign of a young demonstrator who came to the Place de la République in Nancy.

In the crowd, same sound of bell: “We will not hold”. For Emmanuel, 44 years old and a driver, holding out two more years before retiring is not an option. Every day, he carries 1,200 tires with his bare hands to load and unload his truck during deliveries. “I will have to change jobs, it’s too physical, the body wears out”.

Among the demonstrators, we could see high school students, workers and retirees. All ages and all social classes wanted to be heard.

The atmosphere

The procession headed calmly towards Place Stanislas. Despite a few firecrackers, there were no major overflows, it was in a relatively good atmosphere that the people of Nancy expressed their fed up with the decisions of the President’s government. Emmanuel Macron.

Upon arrival at Place Stanislas, the police used tear gas at the corner of rue des Dominicains and rue Gambetta. As the atmosphere was very calm, several demonstrators were surprised, wondering why the police had gassed the crowd.

According to some demonstrators, interviewed by Lorraine Newsa group of people would have tried to force the passage near the police officers, it is therefore there that the police officers would have replied by using tear gas.

The number of protesters

According to the prefecture, 12,000 people demonstrated this Thursday in Nancy.

“It’s a great point of support to build the following from next week”, wrote the CGT of Nancy on Facebook this Thursday evening. To be continued.
