Nothing is impossible. A full-fledged apartment for two was created in Prague on 26 meters

A young couple from Prague 9 decided to start living in a studio apartment with a floor area of only 26 square meters. Their wish was to have a full-sized apartment. At first glance, a difficult wish has become a reality.

Architect Zuzana Řepíková showed how to get the most out of the minimum. Together with her colleague Ondřej Krynk, she got her hands on a property whose task was to serve as a starter apartment for a young couple. An apartment that is only 26 square meters.

When the bed changes disposition

The young couple’s studio apartment is located in a renovated villa in Prague 9. The layout originally designed by the developer proposed only a pull-out bed. And the young couple refused. He wanted a full size bed as well as a sofa.

“And because of that, the floor plan of the apartment has completely changed,” described Zuzana Řepíková, who works in the DesignPro studio. She added that thanks to the courage of the investors, a novel interior concept was created.

The illusion of more space

The starting position was not entirely simple. As Zuzana Řepíková described, the apartment also contained a part of the load-bearing wall as a remnant of the reconstruction and a bathroom already built by the developer.

“Thanks to the demolition of the partition at the entrance, the layout of the apartment opened up a bit for us. In order to get the largest possible kitchen, we had to “pull” it further into the room, and this created a diagonal layout of the apartment. This opens up more from the entrance towards the interior and creates the illusion of a larger space,” described Řepíková.

The kitchen is small, but fully equipped

It was also important for the investor to have a full kitchen. “Even though it’s tiny, it has all the modern appliances: fridge with freezer, stove, oven, microwave, even a dishwasher,” described the architect from DesignPro.

Mint laminate is used on the kitchen counter, the laminate worktop has a colorful terrazza decor.

Sleeping behind a perforated sheet

The sleeping area itself is then separated from the kitchen corner by a perforated sheet. According to Zuzana Řepíková, this is so that the partition lets in light, but at the same time provides privacy.

The terrace is accessed from the spacious living room.

69: The popular number permeates the entire apartment in Prague’s Žižkov

“In addition, the partition is really thin and saves space. And it’s also a cheap solution,” explained the architect, who also submitted her project to a prestigious domestic competition Interior of the year.

A sofa bed is also used for relaxation. Relatively spacious wardrobes are located around the entire bathroom and sleeping area.

“We couldn’t leave out the large mirrored area at the entrance, which illuminates and visually enlarges everything,” added Zuzana Řepíková.
