Aldis feels he’s earned the right to lace his boots up on a WWE canvas.

It’s been over a year since Nick Aldis began working with WWE. He started out as a producer and then transitioned to his current role of SmackDown General Manager.

A new interview with Aldis is featured on Insight with Chris Van Vliet and during their chat, Aldis revealed that he has a talent and employee contract with WWE.

I didn’t have any job then (last time we spoke). Now I have two… The producer and a talent. I have two contracts. An employee contract as a producer and a talent contract for the General Manager role… Something like that (Aldis jokingly responded when asked if he’s getting double pay).

The last time Aldis wrestled was in October 2023. He stated that he’s never asked WWE about stepping into the ring for them, but he’s not at peace with his in-ring career. He would like to wrestle again and provided an update on the recovery he’s made from the ruptured bicep tendon injury he suffered.

I guess (by accepting WWE General Manager role, I’m saying goodbye to my in-ring career). But I also don’t — I don’t necessarily see it like that, 100 percent. I see it more as a sort of, you know, maybe not a full-time wrestler. But I don’t know. Look, it gets asked all the time, by everyone except me. I have never once said, hey, what about me? Could I wrestle? And all that because I don’t need to. If and when the time comes, it’ll be what they want and it will hopefully be the right time. I just told them that if you wanna do that, I’m ready.

In all honesty, no (I’m not at peace with the career I’ve had). I would like to lace ‘em up. I don’t care if it’s on a regular basis but, I’ve earned it, once. I don’t know (if that means more than once). If it was one more time, so be it. Like I said, I feel like I meet the criteria to be on that canvas at least once… (My bicep is) 100 percent.

There was an instance on WWE television when Aldis was involved in physicality. In December 2023, Aldis took an RKO from Randy Orton. He revealed that-that moment came about on the fly.

I still feel funny. I know we’re in 2024 but I still feel funny about giving away but it’s like, whatever. I’ve done it now. I can’t not give it to you. It was called on the fly (Randy Orton RKO’ing me). Yeah. Audible… It’s Roman (Reigns), Randy, who’s he gonna sign with… and then, he was gonna sign the SmackDown contract and stare down Roman I think and I think that was it, and then it was like, somebody told somebody told somebody… while I was ringside. So I had to then go in and call it. Incidentally. I’ve never gotten to the bottom of who was behind it. It’s not because of anything like that (that’s causing me to be hesitant about telling the story). I still feel weird giving away the magic. But again, it seems to have been one of these moments that connects, right? So it’s like, there seems to be a heightened level of interest on that particular moment because it was quite out of the blue. It was really out of the blue, even for me.

Aldis was the individual to deliver the news about the newly introduced WWE Women’s United States Championship. The first champion is going to be crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14th.
