New CV Logistics open to the private sector. State admits leaving capital (in the future)

The public company CV Logística Agroalimentar is open to the private sector and in the future the State may not be part of it

Information provided to the press by the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, after a meeting with businesspeople, at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce of Sotavento, this morning.

Gilberto Silva emphasizes that the presence of the State is good to help with investments, but that it does not have to stay permanently.

“The State has this demonstrative role, of coming in, making a company work, but at the same time opening itself up to the private sector for the private sector to take over (…) And it is good that the State is in the company, because it can also help with investment , but the State does not have to stay definitively and we think that, in the future, the State will not even be present in the company’s corporate structure, but this will depend on how quickly we can develop this logistics part through the company”, he stated.

The government official states that with CV Logística the aim is to create logistics services so that products reach the market with higher quality.

“The aim is to consolidate, structure and reinforce the value chains of the primary sector, essentially agriculture and artisanal fishing, in order to create the best conditions, therefore, to provide logistical services that allow products to arrive with better quality at the market. We are talking about logistics linked to production, there are also challenges in terms of labor and it is essential that the country can gradually make its way in terms of mechanization of rural work”, he highlighted.

The president of the Sotavento Chamber of Commerce, Mário Rodrigues, states that the country’s primary sector needs attention and hopes that CV Logística will respond to the needs of entrepreneurs in the sector.

“This company will operate, essentially, in the primary sector, a sector that deserves and needs special attention, as there are many complaints in the primary sector that were not resolved and are still not resolved, such as the issue of training, the issue of treatment of products, distribution, and this company comes to help a little in this sector that is in need and has many difficulties to resolve”, he declared.

The company Cabo Verde Logística Agroalimentar has a share capital of 15 million escudos and its shareholders are the State, with 30% of the shares and Correios de Cabo Verde, with 70%.
