Millennials Earn Over $134,000 in One Year After Turning Home Into Rental

A video documenting a couple’s inspiring journey of transforming their home into a successful Airbnb business has captivated thousands of viewers on TikTok.

Posted by Kelsein (@kelseinwealleans) on August 28, the video has garnered more than 136,000 views, with many impressed by the couple’s hard work and the results of the home renovation.

A message overlaid on the clip says “When you and your partner start an Airbnb business and all the years of hard work pays off.”

Kelsein, who is 29, according to her TikTok profile, and her fiancé, who is 30 years old, according to a previous video, are shown renovating their home in Northumberland, England.

The video also charts the couple’s financial progress, highlighting how their efforts have become substantial earnings.

They made £10,618.46 (about $13,808) in 2021, which grew to £54,649.24 (about $71,066) in 2022. Their total revenue for 2023 soared to £103,483.34 (about $134,636), according to the clip.

In a later comment, Kelsein clarified that the 2023 figure was earned across three properties, showcasing the rapid growth of their rental business. The poster also noted that the renovation costs for their properties ranged from £30,000 (around $39,015) to £50,000 (around $65,032).

The viral post comes as home renovation spending in the United States was reported to have risen in the last three years, with the median spend increasing by 60 percent between 2020 ($15,000) and 2023 ($24,000), according to a survey of 32,615 users, including 17,713 renovating U.S. homeowners, conducted by Houzz, a home design website.

Homeowners across the U.S. continue to struggle with high housing costs. According to a 2024 report from the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, “millions of potential homebuyers have been priced out of the market by elevated home prices and interest rates.”

The growth in home prices was seen in 97 of the top 100 markets, with higher increases in the Northeast and Midwest regions.

‘Stunning’

A caption accompanying the viral TikTok video simply reads, “It’s been a journey,” underscoring the challenges and triumphs the couple has faced in their business venture.

The clip provides a glimpse of the renovation process, showing viewers how much effort was invested in turning their home into a polished, profitable rental property.

The couple’s determination and dedication are on full display as they tackle various tasks, from replacing floors to revamping the garden. The transformation is evident, with the home going from stripped-down walls to a stylish, modern space, complete with a Jacuzzi in the backyard.
