Michael Newman, actor from the series ‘Baywatch’, dies at 67

Newman’s close friend, Matt Felker, who directed the recent docuseries After Baywatch: Moment in the Sunreported that the actor died “from heart complications” on the night of Sunday, October 20, “surrounded by his family and friends.”

“I saw Mike the last time he was conscious and he looked at me and, in typical Mike style, said, ‘You’re just in time,'” Felker explained to the British media.

Born in Los Angeles, Newman rose to fame in the ’90s as the top lifeguard of The Baywatch and it was the only member of the successful cast who was actually a lifeguardexplains the specialized magazine.

appeared in 150 episodes of the series, which ran between 1989 and 2001, making his participation the most prolific, not counting that of its protagonist David Hasselhoff.

Newman too I was a full-time firefighter. and kept his job at a firefighting station while filming the famous series. When the show ended, he continued his work until he retired after 25 years.

The star spent the last few years raising money with actor Michael J. Fox’s Foundation to help find a cure for Parkinson’s.

Diagnosed at age 50, Newman talked about living with Parkinson’s disease in a documentary directed by Felker, and revealed that he took 10 medications a day and often woke up “nervous.”
