Although Marvel is keeping footage under wraps for the time being (outside of attendees at the San Diego Comic-Con and D23 Brazil conventions), we now have an official synopsis for next year’s hotly-anticipated The Fantastic Four: First Steps courtesy of a Disney+ press release.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps kicks off Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and sets the stage for the culmination of the Multiverse Saga with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The synopsis confirms the previously reported multiverse setting along with the threats facing the Fantastic Four in the guise of Galactus and his Herald, as well as teasing “personal” stakes for Marvel’s First Family.
“Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet.
Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision) and stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, along with Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, Ralph Ineson as Galactus, and Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne and Sarah Niles in as yet-unrevealed roles.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set for release on July 25th 2025.
