First written Abitur examinations in Hesse

Show what you can do – and don’t get a blackout: The written Abitur exams begin today in Hesse. Around 23,000 high school graduates at around 300 schools will write the various exams in their basic and advanced courses by May 8th.

It starts today with a range of advanced courses – the first Abitur exams are written in the subjects of art, music, politics and economics, history, economics, geography, Protestant and Catholic religion, computer science and sports. At some schools, the first graduation posters have been hung up by families and friends for days.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the first graduation poster was in the 1990s. “It’s been slowly spreading since the 2000s and the posters have been very common for about 15 years.” The custom of graduation posters has also been evident for several years in the written final examinations of secondary and secondary schools. These start in Hesse on May 13th.

Graduation posters designed by friends and parents hang on the fence of a high school in Frankfurt.
