Limay: the Roma camp swept away by fire

An impressive whitish smoke scarred the sky of Limay this Thursday, January 19, 2023, late morning. Around noon, a violent fire broke out in a camp where a Roma family, at the edge of the departmental 190, very close to the Carrefour store. No one was hurt. However, the shantytown was completely destroyed by the flames.

Around 1 p.m., the firefighters were still busy putting out the last embers. Three trucks and more than a dozen rescuers were mobilized. Traffic was cut on the departmentaldue to the thick smoke which would have hampered the visibility of motorists.

According to our information, the fire, of accidental origin, left one of the six caravans located on this vacant lot. Several of them went up in smoke. The ten occupants of the camp, who have already found accommodation in another squat, lost almost everything in the disaster.
