When Spectrum purchased Time Warner Cable, the Federal Communications Commission required Spectrum to provide rural communities in New York with high-speed internet service and also expand rural service territory.
It did not abide by the FCC’s ruling on this purchase and it has since paid millions in fines. Now taxpayers are funding companies like Archtop Fiber to do what it (Spectrum) was supposed to do. Our government officials need to enforce the rules.
Additionally, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced in August that Spectrum was to continue the low- income Internet assist program. As a customer in this program, I can attest that Spectrum makes it really difficult on purpose and I only received my program benefits after bringing it to court. The Public Service Commission, FCC and political leaders need to enforce what was already approved.
