The crew approached the longest stage between Cape Town and Itajai, in Brazil, with the desire to shake up the hierarchy.
Breakage of the hull sandwich

We immediately slowed the boat down to see what happened. As soon as I passed my head, I saw that the ground on the port side and the bottom of the hull were moving. We made the difficult decision with the technical team to return to Cape Town.
It was a rupture of the hull sandwich. A race against the clock was beginning, with the primary objective of bringing the Imoca back in good condition.
The positive attitude
In order to prevent the hull from moving too much during the crossing, the crew undertook some makeshift repairs by fixing slats inside the boat and using weight to stabilize everything.
Whether on land or at sea, we are only progressing, this is great news, we are hanging on. These moments are part of history. That’s what we’ll talk about later! It’s very important to know that we haven’t given up, we’re making a technical stopover.

The crew arrived overnight from Saturday to Sunday in Cape Town.
A new race is starting, this time ashore… The next ten days will be very intense, after the technicians’ check-up.
