Kladno’s first move was directed by Jarůšek and secured by Brízgal. Knights defeated Vsetín 4:1

Halfway through the match, it was as if Kladno was catching up to the playoff pace, after a forty-five-day break, perhaps no one could have expected anything else. But then Matyáš Filip started the account of the hockey battle for the extra league with a nice action and the guests from Vsetín were suddenly behind. The Knights added two more goals to their net and eventually won the first match 4:1, when the home team’s heroes were Richard Jarůšek with a three-pointer and goalkeeper Adam Brízgala. The rematch will be played again in Kladno on Thursday, this time starting at 6:00 p.m.

Surprises in the lineups? One yes. The Russian Max Žukov was absent from the Vsetín goal (minor health problem, but according to coach Wintritt he is already ready) and was replaced by the Slovakian Patrik Romančík. He was opposed by a recovered Adam Brízgala and actually had more work to do throughout the match, even though Kladno Valachy created fewer chances.

In the middle of the match, however, they stepped on the gas and with three goals between the 29th and 38th minutes, they greatly eroded the resistance of the visitors. “For twenty-eight minutes we played the hockey we wanted. We had decent movement, good shooting opportunities, but it was necessary to score a goal from them and unfortunately we did not succeed,” Vsetín coach Jiří Weintritt regretted.

Everything started with a good save by Tralmaks, he took the puck in front of the goal, sent it to Jarůšek, who found Matyáš Filip perfectly. The youngster, who sat out the whole season due to injury, scored for the first time since April 20, 2023, i.e. almost exactly a year later. After a while, Frolík found Jarůšek from behind the cage, who burned Romančík at close range. And he did it once again from a solo breakaway, despite being fouled by two players. “I’ll take the first goal, it was a fluke, but I’m sorry for the other two, they were mistakes,” coach Vsetín was angry.

A goal at the end

His wards still tried to do something with the match, but especially Matějček, who played a large part of the season in the regional league in Nové Město nad Metují, ran into the bulletproof Brízgal in the third part, and overcame him only at the very end. That was already at 4:0, because the Knights had already secured their lead thanks to Smoleňák’s recording and Tralmaks’ uncompromising finish. “Nevertheless, we are happy that we beat the very good catcher Brízgal, it can be important for the rematch,” Jiří Weintritt said.

Home player Otakar Vejvoda said that three factors made the decision: “Excellent Brízgala in goal, well-defended breakdowns, of which there were too many and it’s a long-standing Kladno problem, and a good passage in the second period when we improved our movement and scored three goals,” shortened Vejvoda’s assessment and when asked why the recovered key back Dotchin only played for a while in the first period, he just smiled.

Czech striker Tomáš Hertl made his debut in the Vegas jersey.

In addition to Brízgala, Vejvoda also praised Matyáš Filip, who scored an important goal after injury. “It wasn’t spectacular hockey, but we thought it wouldn’t be fun because the break was really long and the opponent was really more playful. However, we managed the first period as we wanted and we bounced back in the second,” pleased Matyáš Filip, according to whom his opening goal was good for him personally, and especially for the whole team.
