Kickers Offenbach is in the final of the Hessen Cup after a penalty thriller hessenschau.de

The Offenbacher Kickers are in the final of the Hessen Cup. The close game at SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz will only be decided in a penalty shootout. A blatant outsider is now waiting for the OFC in the final.

The Offenbacher Kickers are only one step away from entering the DFB Cup: In the semi-finals of the Hessen Cup on Tuesday evening, the OFC defeated regional league rivals SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz 5:4 (2:2, 1:1). Penalty shootout. Kickers keeper Johannes Brinkies parried the decisive attempt against SG player Leon Pomnitz.

In regular time, Alexander Sorge had put the Kickers in the lead (37′), before ex-Offenbacher Moritz Reinhard equalized with the last action before the half-time whistle (45’+3). Section two was similar: First Marc Wachs converted a corner for the Kickers directly into the hosts’ goal (59th), then SG Barockstadt equalized in the 90th minute through Gal Grobelnik. The penalty shootout followed immediately afterwards (without extra time), in which goalkeeper Brinkies saved a total of two penalties. His opposite number Samuel Zapiko only got hold of the ball once.

Previously, a balanced game had developed over long stretches in the best football weather in front of 4,279 spectators. Sometimes the OFC gained an advantage, then again the SG Barockstadt. However, chances were scarce and a lot happened between the two penalty areas. So standard situations had to be used for goals.

Favorite in the final against Türk Gücü Friedberg

The first three goals came from dead balls. The 2-1 win for the Kickers was particularly worth seeing: Wachs, who had only been on the ball since the winter in Offenbach (previously Eintracht Frankfurt II), flicked the ball from the right corner flag over the goalkeeper into the far corner. Until the final celebration, however, the guests still had to worry a bit after the late 2-2 equalizer. But then Brinkies became a hero.

With the victory, the Offenbachers are now in the final of the state cup. It will take place on May 25th in the Frankfurt stadium on Bornheimer Hang. The opponent is the Hessen league team Türk Gücü Friedberg, who surprisingly prevailed in the other semi-final against KSV Hessen Kassel. The winner of the final will take part in the first round of the DFB Cup next season – and will also collect around 200,000 euros.
